Economic and Trade Exchange Meeting Held with the Richmond Merchants Association and Cooperation Agreements Signed
Greater Vancouver, British Columbia, May 6, 2026 — A six-member delegation from Jiangmen visited the Greater Vancouver region on May 6, 2026, and attended the “Jiangmen Delegation – Richmond Merchants Association Economic and Trade Exchange Meeting” with the Richmond Merchants Association. The exchange meeting aimed to further deepen cooperation between Jiangmen and the Richmond business community in the areas of trade, culture, people-to-people friendship, and business collaboration, while creating new opportunities for future partnerships.
The Economic and Trade Exchange Meeting was presided over by Mr. William Tse, Director and Secretary-General of the Richmond Merchants Association.
The Jiangmen delegation included Ms. Wu Xiaohui, Mayor of Jiangmen; Mr. Liang Guangting, Mayor of Kaiping; Mr. Yan Lezhong, District Mayor of Jianghai District, Jiangmen; Ms. Liang Linghua, Deputy Secretary-General of the Jiangmen Municipal Government; Mr. Zhao Xiaobin, Director of the Jiangmen Foreign Affairs Bureau; and Mr. Guo Tong, Section Chief of the Jiangmen Investment Promotion Bureau.
Representatives of the Richmond Merchants Association in attendance included President Mr. Sunny Ho; Vice President Mr. Guan Wen Shi; Director and Secretary-General Mr. William Tse; Executive Director Mr. Maston Ho; Overseas Advisor Mr. Henry Li; Assistant to the President Mr. Donald Chow; as well as business leaders and institutional guests.
During the event, both parties held a signing ceremony for the Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding between the Jiangmen People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Richmond Merchants Association. The signing laid a stronger foundation for future collaboration in trade, cultural exchange, business visits, and people-to-people friendship.
In addition, the Richmond Merchants Association formally signed an exchange memorandum with the Taishan Fengxiang Yuhuai Cultural Tourism Project, further promoting cooperation in commerce, cultural tourism, agricultural development, and wellness-related industries. The signing established a new bridge for cross-border trade and cultural tourism cooperation and created a solid foundation for broader, multi-level collaboration between enterprises and institutions on both sides.
The Taishan Fengxiang Yuhuai Cultural Tourism Project focuses on four major areas: agriculture, culture, tourism, and wellness. It is committed to integrating local specialty resources, building cultural tourism brands, and promoting diversified industrial development. Through this memorandum, the Richmond Merchants Association hopes to strengthen connections between the Greater Vancouver business community and the Taishan region of Jiangmen in project matching, resource sharing, investment cooperation, and cultural tourism promotion, creating more opportunities for future development in the agriculture, culture, tourism, and wellness sectors.
This cooperation also reflects the Richmond Merchants Association’s vision of actively promoting multi-dimensional business development. By connecting local enterprises, overseas resources, and high-quality projects in Mainland China, the Association will continue to assist its members and business community partners in exploring more diverse development opportunities, while further promoting people-to-people exchange and economic cooperation between Canada and China.

At the exchange meeting, Mr. Guan Wen Shi, Vice President of the Richmond Merchants Association and President of Shi-Art Chinese Cuisine Group, shared his extensive experience in the food and beverage industry, as well as his views on its future development.
Mr. Guan stated that Canada Food Arts Restaurant Group has been deeply engaged in the Greater Vancouver food and beverage market for many years, consistently adhering to a quality-oriented approach while embracing integration and innovation. By combining international culinary concepts with local dining culture, the group has successfully developed several restaurant brands that are well loved by the community.
He noted that, as consumers’ demand for health-conscious choices, diversity, and cultural experiences continues to grow, the food and beverage industry is rapidly transforming toward digitalization, sustainability, and experience-based consumption.
Mr. Guan emphasized that Jiangmen, known as the “Hometown of Overseas Chinese in China,” possesses a rich culinary heritage and high-quality food supply chain resources, which are highly complementary to the Canadian food and beverage market. He expressed hope that, through this exchange, food and beverage enterprises from both regions can pursue practical cooperation in areas such as supply chain connectivity, mutual brand promotion, talent training, culinary culture, and food tourism promotion, jointly exploring new opportunities for cross-border development in the food and beverage industry.

Jiangmen is known as “China’s No. 1 Hometown of Overseas Chinese” and “China’s Overseas Chinese Capital.” It has deep historical roots and emotional connections with overseas Chinese communities around the world. The delegation’s visit was not only a friendly exchange, but also an important opportunity to deepen cooperation, introduce development opportunities, and promote mutual understanding.
Following this, Mr. Liang Guangting, Mayor of Kaiping, introduced Kaiping’s geographic advantages, industrial foundation, and cultural tourism achievements. Mayor Liang noted that Kaiping has strong locational advantages, a well-established industrial base, and broad development potential, making it an important platform for investment, cultural tourism, and overseas Chinese exchange.
In recent years, Kaiping’s cultural tourism industry has developed rapidly. In particular, projects such as Chikan Overseas Chinese Ancient Town and the Kaiping Diaolou and Villages have attracted large numbers of visitors due to their rich overseas Chinese culture, World Cultural Heritage resources, immersive performances, and nighttime tourism economy. According to publicly available information, Chikan Overseas Chinese Ancient Town received 3.6169 million visitors in 2025, representing a 15.38% year-on-year increase, and recorded a new single-day visitor record during the 2026 Spring Festival period, becoming one of the most prominent tourism destinations in Guangdong Province.
Mayor Liang stated that Kaiping will continue to leverage its strengths in overseas Chinese culture, World Heritage resources, transportation links, and industrial foundation to promote cultural-tourism integration, investment attraction, and industrial upgrading. He welcomed Canadian and overseas enterprises, overseas Chinese communities, and community organizations to visit Kaiping for study tours, investment cooperation, and expanded exchange opportunities.
Mr. Yan Lezhong, District Mayor of Jianghai District, Jiangmen, also introduced the location advantages, industrial development, and future cooperation directions of Jiangmen High-Tech Zone, also known as Jianghai District. While many overseas Chinese are familiar with Jiangmen, Xinhui, Taishan, and Kaiping, Jianghai District is relatively less known. In fact, Jianghai District is one of Jiangmen’s important municipal districts and serves as a key platform for Jiangmen High-Tech Zone.
Jiangmen High-Tech Zone was established in July 1992, became a provincial-level high-tech zone in 1993, was upgraded to a national-level high-tech zone in November 2010, and began operating jointly with Jianghai District in 2013. In recent years, Jiangmen High-Tech Zone and Jianghai District have relied on the national high-tech zone platform to actively promote advanced manufacturing, high-tech industries, port logistics, investment attraction, and urban development, becoming an important growth engine for Jiangmen’s industrial upgrading and regional development.
District Mayor Yan stated that Jianghai District will continue to make full use of its transportation advantages, industrial platforms, and national high-tech zone policies. He welcomed Canadian and overseas enterprises, overseas Chinese communities, and business representatives to visit Jiangmen High-Tech Zone and Jianghai District for study tours, investment cooperation, and the exploration of more trade and industrial cooperation opportunities.

Mr. Jensen Li, Chairman of Murphy Aircraft Manufacturing Ltd., introduced the company’s production base in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Murphy Aircraft Manufacturing was established in 1985 and has more than 41 years of history. To date, the company has sold more than 2,000 aircraft and has extensive experience in the field of light aircraft manufacturing.
Mr. Vincent Yu, Vice President of GreenVolt Battery Systems Inc., introduced the company’s development in new energy and electric vehicle technologies. The company is committed to converting gasoline vehicles into electric vehicles and stated that its technology can allow vehicles to reach 100% battery capacity each day, with an estimated range of approximately 400 kilometres when unloaded and approximately 350 kilometres when carrying cargo.
The company’s core team is actively promoting a green energy revolution and plans to invest CAD $200 million to establish an electric vehicle assembly centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. The project will work with global industry leaders, including Dongfeng Motor and Chengli Group, to promote the localized production of Level 4 to Level 5 electric trucks equipped with the company’s self-developed automated battery-swapping technology.
Mr. David Li, Chairman of Vancouver Cabinets Inc., also spoke at the meeting, sharing the company’s development experience and exchanging views on cooperation opportunities in construction, home renovation, and related industries.
